Ecuador is tiny, it’s only a matter of two hundred miles for travellers to cross all of the mainland’s defining regions. In a day you can travel from the coastal lowlands, a land of wandering beaches, exotic plant life and dense mangrove forest, to the volcanic central highlands which splits into two local ranges, demarcating a magnificent central valley known as Avenue of the Volcanoes, to the rainforest in which just one Amazon lodge can boast 650 bird species among other superlatives.
